311 Candlenight
Fourteen years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident. Yet, the “Declaration of Nuclear Emergency” issued at 7:03 p.m. that day has not been lifted.
Those forced to evacuate remain displaced, living outside of their home prefectures.
For this year’s March 11th, we invite you to join us in a “Candlenight for 311” so we can all stand together to support those affected. It is still painful to remember. But we hope the experience will help us heal. Heal yourself and heal together.
A single person can make a difference!
It has now been 14 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake. And yet, because evacuees were relocated far and across the country, no memorial event has been organized as was done for the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake or the Chornobyl disaster. But the need to stand together is stronger today than ever. The containment of debris and nuclear fallout remains insecure, the decommissioning of the nuclear power plant faces unending postponement, radioactive discharge and contaminated groundwater continues to be released, without dialogue, into the ocean, and although a lot of money has been spent on reconstruction efforts and whitewash “defamation” campaigns, not enough support has reached the real victims of the disaster. Alone, we feel powerless to bring about change. But every person can make a difference.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 7:03 p.m., we invite you to join us in lighting a candle for the “Candlenight for 311”. Every person, for every candle we add, makes a difference. Please join us.
You can light your candle at 7:03 pm your local time wherever you are in the world.
Please join us at the “Candlenight for 311”.
Let’s make the light spread across the world. Come participate in a Candle Night near you
